I use a carbon fiber afo brace due to nerve damage from a car accident. It is an annoyingly minor problem which has not made me a couch potato or impeded my zest for doing anything (well - sprinting, hiking and walking long distances are kind of out of my realm). There are many other activities I love such as swimming and yoga that don't require me to pound pavement. I think I've adjusted well to this limitation and find it small in the scheme of things.
