Not a physical Disability--Clinical Depression So--who might possibly look at my official diagnosis--Severe, treatment-resistant, atypical depression coupled with Hypersomnia (super sleepiness of unknown cause)--and not just think: Run Away!! I could hardly blame you, but the above is only part of my story. I'm working with a psychiatrist unlike any of the many, many I've encountered before. More to the point: I have good days and bad days. On good days, the depression melts away to reveal the "real" me--An optimistic, talkative, creative, guitar player, singer, writer, artist, and all around creativity junkie who wants to hear your stories...
On "bad" days when depression decides to flay me, you simply won't see me. I'm terrifically concerned about my illness touching on others, especially those I care about, so I disappear when there's any risk of that.
Of course, for those just getting to know me, these sudden disappearances can seem like something that they are absolutely not--a lack of interest that I didn't bother to tell you in straight manner. Because I know how to be honest, without being harsh. And I always hope for the same from others.
The bottom line is...I would love to have a female friend with a bit of patience and understanding who would get ten times that in return and would wonder (on my good days) how I could possibly be considered "depressed." Well, I'm fighting it and I will will beat it.
