Google Search Surprise!!!

I belong to many internet groups, dating and otherwise. I googled my username and was really amazed at what I saw. Every single word I have ever written at Disabled Passions, and every other group in the Passions network, including all my messages, my profile, my photo is available for anyone to read. There is no info about me from any other internet groups I belong to, just the Passions network. I am deleting my membership today.

Search engines regularly crawl our site(s), so your profiles and posts may show up in search results if someone were to search your username.

Since members choose a unique username, we don't think that many people are likely to be searching for it online, and it is unlikely this issue would ever come up for most people.

But even if someone did do a search on a member's username, NONE of the member's personal account information would be available.

The only thing that shows up in search results is a snippet of text from the person's public profile, and a link to the person's profile.

We let people know in the Terms of Service that basic profile and groups information can show up in online search results, so if you are confused at all, please re-read the TOS (Terms of Service) linked at the bottom of every page of the site (although the Terms link does not appear within the forums area).

We're still not sure why the member who posted the message was so upset though, because the only thing that would show up in the search results is the same thing people could read if they went into the site.

Color us confused !
