I think though if you judge a book by it's cover you might just miss out on a really good book. From what I hear looks fade and if that's all you got going for yourself, well then you're not left with much more to offer in the end. I'd much rather have a person of substance than a pretty shell.

`People generally don't respond to a no-pic profile. It's just the way the internet dating scene works. Of course, it's a common problem for people to be ignored even if they do have a pic, but no pic, no response is the general attitude. Profiles all too often tend to just blur together, barring a few radical exceptions, and the pic helps a person stand out as an individual and a person with a personality, a smile, etc.
Right or wrong, people look at it like you're hiding something by not showing your face, or feel it's lacking intimacy even worse than usual (We're already lacking eye contact, expressions, voice tone as it is), to many it's like holding your hands over your face while trying to talk to someone, saying "I want to get to know you first, before you see my face." If you don't do it in real life, don't do it on the 'net. It just doesn't work. Also, keep an eye on how long it's been since the person last logged on. Huge numbers of profiles haven't logged on in months and months. They're probably not coming back.

`How would you respond if someone walked up to you in a club or at a party with a sack over their head? Probably not very well. Chances are, you'd just ignore them or not take them seriously, or wonder what they were hiding. Having a profile with no pic and trying to initiate contact is just about the same thing.
