- My childhood was traumatic, outside my home, not in it. A small miracle as far as I'm concerned. I don't know what I would've done if my home life & my momma wasn't as "protected". Unfortunately by having everything happen outside my home, I've gotten to the point where my home is the only place I can live without anxiety, fear or stress. I don't work, live with my mom still, & am as "cured" as I think I'll ever truly be. I know I could do more but the thought of going back to the life I led as a teenager & early 20s makes me break out in hives. I can't live like that again..... If I have to be alone for the rest of my life, I'll try to deal with that. I'm hoping to find a man who wouldn't mind being more of a homebody. -

Hi, Born2be,
I can understand where you are coming from. I had whole lot of fear and anxiety about sounds after developing hyperacusis (increased sensitivity to sounds), and had phonophobia (fear of sounds). This wrecked my life big time, and led to me developing a lot of other sensitivities. I couldn't leave home for years. But, with the help of some specialists I've been working a desensitization by gradually exposing myself more to these sounds and activities that cause me problems. So I'm getting out on my own now, and gradually expanding my world.
It's the hardest thing I've done in my life. And I may be working at this till I'm dead. Things are so much better than where I started though.
Best of luck to you,
John
